Resetting your password in WordPress can be a daunting task, especially if you are not familiar with the C-panel also known as the control panel.
WHAT IS A C-PANEL ?
The C-Panel is the control room of your website or blog depending on what you choose to call it. Liken the C-Panel to the White House where major decisions that changes a lot of things in the world are made. From Power, Economic, Political, Religious, Human rights e.t.c.
The C-panel gives you as the owner of the blog the full control of your website. It allows you to make changes at any time you feel like. When your site gets hacked or someone changed your password, this is the place to effect those changes. There are many things you can do here from setting up your emails, doing autoresponder’s, checking your diskspace, adding a sub-domains, encrypting your site and others. There is more to do in this section, you just need to explore. It is not a rocket-science is it ?
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF I CAN’T LOGIN
If you are unable to login to your wordpress dashboard after inserting your password, that can be very annoying.
Should I Do Forget Password ?
Doing forget password seems to be the easiest route to getting a new password, but there is a better way to do that without being compromised on the outside.
HOW TO CHANGE PASSWORD IN C-PANEL
The best way to change the password is to login to your C-panel account, with the use of your mouse scroll down to locate database. Under the Database section, locate “PHPMyAdmin, click on it. It will load an information Schema that represents your database. Clicking on it automatically loads all the tables in the database.
The next thing you want to do is to find the users table, click on ” Browse.” The users table contains all the information of the users on your site. Locate the account you want to change the password and click on “Edit,” the password you will see under the users pass is a very complicated one.
But wait a second !
That is not actually the password, it is an encrypted form of the password.
What you might be tempted to do in most cases is to clear the encrypted password and just put any desired one there. But if you go back to WordPress login page, you will get an error message. The fastest way is to get a new password, make sure it is set to “MD5” click on “Save” down below and finally on “Go.” Logging in to your WordPress dashboard is no longer an issue.
ANOTHER WAY TO CHANGE YOUR PASSWORD
But there is another way to do that, passwords on the C-Panel are using what is called “MD5 hash” to encrypt the password.
What you have to do is to turn the password into an “MD5 hash”. Go back to the password section, put the hash in there, not the actual password. Go to Google.com and search for ” MD5 Hash Generator,” you can pick anyone you like.
A message like this will pop up :
” Use this generator to create an MD5 hash of a strong.”
Enter your new desired password, click on generate. A message like this will pop up ;
The first represents the code or the encrypted password while the second is the password that can be seen. Copy the first one and go straight back to your C-Panel paste it there, click on save. It will look encrypted, more like the first one you see when logged in the first time.
Go back to your wordpress login page, put in your new password, you will be logged in seamlessly. The final step is to go to your profile in wordpress dashboard under “Account Management” click on “Generate Password” and click on update. Go back to your C-Panel and refresh the page, the MD5 will automatically change to the new password.
That is how to change your password in your C-Panel dashboard.
